Shelter is a crucial component for helping community cats survive outside. As part of our mission, Bushwick Street Cats produces as many winter shelters as possible every year to keep cats safe throughout the colder months.
We also encourage you to learn to build your own shelters! They can be simple or more elaborate, cosmetically attractive or just functional, as long as they keep cats dry and warm it doesn’t matter!
Check out Neighborhood Cats’ page about winter shelters for excellent DIY ideas as well as shelters that can be purchased.
Plastic Storage Tote Shelter. This is a fairly standard shelter, although we’ve upgrade some aspects so it should last longer than the average shelter. This page includes instructions on how to build it yourself!
